Fix Rising Damp Problems
When you’re charged with repairing one of Perth’s most iconic buildings, you must be on your game.
This was the task handed to Stable Commercial’s Eddie Ostler when he received a call from a client concerned about rising damp in the vestibule of the Wesley Church, situated on the corner of Hay and William Streets in the Perth CBD.
According to the client, the problem had steadily worsened and was at the point where something had to be done.
“One condition” the client said. “Church services must continue as normal.”
Armed with this information, Stable Commercial conducted an initial visual inspection. By using a Moisture Metre, the team established that the damp was much worse than was visible.
As a result, Stable were given the go-ahead to remove some of the flooring and wall to conduct a more in-depth investigation; a process which revealed a lack of a membrane under the floor, and a problem with damp coming from outside the church.
Stable Commercial issued a quote which addressed the problem both internally and externally.
Internally, Stable removed the affected internal flooring, installed a new membrane, poured a concrete slab, applied a new membrane to the slab, retiled, and injected the walls with a damp proof silane.
The external repair was also big. There, the Stable Commercial team built a timber hording to protect the public, removed pavers, excavated sand, injected the external wall with silane, and backfilled before repaving the affected area.
From start to finish the project took approximately two months.
Along the way, church services continued.
Weddings took place.
And the problem of rising damp was fixed, once and for all.
